Board Member Spotlight: Lex Birney

​Lex Birney has been employed by The Brick Companies (TBC) since 1989 and has been the Managing General Partner and Chief Executive Officer since 1998. TBC, a privately held company based in Edgewater, Maryland, owns, develops and manages commercial, residential and recreational properties. The company is committed to environmental and social responsibility, as demonstrated by its “green building” philosophy and its support for charities and social causes through The TBC Foundation.

As a board member, he hopes to bring sailing and its many benefits from self-reliance to leadership and just plain fun to everyone and particularly kids with learning differences by expanding this terrific program to a national scale.

​He is married to Allison and has two daughters, Helen and Alaina. Allison owns and operates LouiLoui Designs, specializing in unique handcrafted jewelry; Helen resides in Maplewood, New Jersey, has two daughters and is a teacher; Alaina, “Lu,” is a junior majoring in math with a minor in philosophy and an interest in cyber security at the University of Vermont.
