St. Mary's
Camp Sessions

About our St. Mary's Camp

Day and Overnight Camp Sessions
Ages:
Day Camp: 11-18 years old
Overnight Camp: 14-18 years old

Since 2005, Brendan Sailing has been helping children with learning differences to realize success. Thanks to the support of St. Mary's College of Maryland (a Public Honors College), and our partnership with Spirit of America we add another dimension to our sailing program and its overall goal of building confidence and social skills through sailing.

Our St. Mary's program introduces safe instruction for not only sailing but incorporates the concepts of paddle sports. Led by US Sailing certified instructors, the Brendan Curriculum covers an introduction to the sport of sailing that includes the parts of the boat, maneuvers, navigation, and the Rules of the Road that follows the National On-Water Standards. Participants are given hands-on experience in recreational boating, including human propelled craft. When not on the water, campers have the option of a variety of recreational and team building opportunities to promote self-confidence and self-esteem. These activities include swimming, movie night, games and more.

Overnight session campers will have the opportunity to stay on-site in St. Mary's College student housing, take meals in the dining hall, and build confidence through the independence they experience while staying on campus. Includes single occupancy dorm room as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner.

No prior sailing or boating experience is necessary to participate in either our Day or Overnight Sessions. Brendan Sailing proudly serves youth with learning differences, including those with Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder (requiring minimal support). While we are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment, our staff are not medically trained and our program is not equipped to provide the level of care required for individuals who need more intensive support.

For our Overnight Sessions, we recommend that campers be at least 14 years old and have completed 8th grade. Day Campers follow the same curriculum as the Overnight Program, with camp running from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.
